Apple takes step to stop AirTag tracking misuse

Apple wants to make a variety of improvements to make it more difficult to monitor people using AirTags. The little gadgets are intended to integrate with Apple’s ‘Find My’ network to track down misplaced objects.

The business claims that the improvements to the gadget would make it simpler to spot suspicious tags and will inform customers sooner if an AirTag is travelling with them.

A number of women informed the BBC in January that they had been followed using AirTags.

Apple AirTags were introduced by Apple in April of last year. The little, circular gadgets may be fastened to baggage, keys, or anything else that can be misplaced. However, disguised in a car or on a personal object such as a purse, the devices may be used to monitor individuals.

As part of the modifications to make abuse more difficult, Apple stated that when users set up their AirTag for the first time, they will receive a notification warning that tracking someone without their agreement is illegal in many parts of the world.

If an unknown AirTag goes with them, iPhone users (and Android users who download an app) receive “unwanted tracking” notifications.
