CAA protesters Devangana Kalita, Natasha Narwal and Asif Iqbal Tanha were all released on bail by the Delhi high court.
The CAA protests in Delhi resulted in civil unrest in the country. The protests resulting in riots had several youngsters arrested and among those who were arrested were Devangana Kalita, Natasha Narwal and Asif Iqbal Tanha.
These students were all booked under the UAPA case thus leading to their imprisonment. Devangana was the founder of a group known as the Pinjra Tod group which had students raising their voices against the citizenship amendment act.
She and Natasha Narwal were arrested last year on charges of igniting violence through their protests. They were accused of being the prime reasons behind the Delhi riots. Devangana was released on bail multiple times but was rearrested in connection to multiple cases.
But this time all these prisoners were finally set free.
Although three of them are out of prison and will resume their normal life they will be under surveillance. As per the high court orders, they have to inform the local SHO before taking major decisions like travelling abroad or relocating to a new residence.
The Delhi police have said in their statement that these anti-CAA protesters knowingly or unknowingly caused the Delhi riots as they ignited communal sentiments.
And therefore it should be kept in mind that they should not be allowed to resume their old activities. Apart from that, they are also warned that they should stay away from contacting anybody who had a connection with the Delhi riots. If caught tampering with any evidence, there are chances that they would be re-arrested.
