In California, a new measure would enable children to be vaccinated against illnesses such as COVID-19 without their parents’ permission.
Currently, children between the ages of 12 and 17 in the state must get parental or guardian consent to take a vaccination in California unless it is to prevent a sexually transmitted infection.
State Senators Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and Richard Pan (D-Sacramento) proposed a measure on Friday that would allow Californians aged 12 and above to acquire immunizations that fulfill particular federal agency standards on their own.
Adolescents might be vaccinated under the bill if the injections are authorized by the US Food and Drug Administration and recommended by the advisory committee of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
