Some fans may remember from their history lessons that Florence Nightingale was also a nurse during the Crimean War. There’s a reason the episode only gives a momentary reference to her and her nurses. The episode didn’t have enough time to explain that Seikol initially applied to Nightingale’s program for nursing and other Army offices but was turned down.
Seikol’s entry The Oxford Companion to Black British History Notes: “No one dared to associate with a strong ‘yellow woman.’ [her words] Dressed in obscene bright colors, a middle-aged man nearly 50 years old, ‘insecure’ (i.e. without a male relationship to take responsibility for her) loudly insisting and apparently in charge. ”Costume designer Ray Holman’s choice. Bright plaids for Mary’s attire This is supported by quotes. The contest continues today as Nightingale’s supporters claim that Seikol’s traditional medicine supporters and hospitality work undermine Nightingale’s legacy. However, despite these objections in recent years, the BBC voted Seikol as the “Greatest Black Britain”. This explains why Dan knew who she was, apart from her casual interest in history. Black British historians, teachers and medical activists have pushed for official recognition.
While Mary Seekol was quite opinionated, it is unlikely that she challenged the authority or helped challenge the authority on the tactics of war. Multiple historians have pointed out that she was more likely to ask officers and others to pay their bills for alcohol and snacks, and that she was heavily in debt due to her defaults after the war.
Overall, the Doctor Who The episode hangs on the historical path when it comes to the details of Seikol’s life. The task of saving her life during the Crimean War has been ignored by many. Although I wish no black screenwriter had written this episode, Seikol’s story was handled respectfully. Her story doesn’t need many variations. Mary Seekol died in 1881, shortly after the events of the Crimean War. BIPOC fans should be sure that she will not be killed in the episode or die immediately after war injuries or illness.
This Doctor Who The episode, along with various statues and medical features named after Seikol, is a fitting tribute to his work that has long been overlooked by many. Seokol’s other nursing and hotel management ventures were too many to fit in with another plot’s timeline in the episode. Fans who want to read more about Seikol can read his autobiography for free, listen to the BBC Comedy History Podcast You’re Dead to Mine Mary Seikol episode or check out the biography. A new biography is coming out in 2022 as well as a movie starring in development Doctor Who Experienced Gugu Mbatha-ro.
