Grindr, one of the most famous location-specific dating app has been fined £5.5m because of sharing personal information without permission or consent.
It is one of the most used apps, developed for the LGBTQ community. The Norwegian Data Protection Authority stated that unfolding such data is illegal and broke the GDPR rules.
Earlier the fine was £8.6m but the financial condition of the app is not pleasing that is why it has been reduced later on to £5.5m.
Tobias Judin, head of the Norwegian Data Protection Authority’s (DPA) foreign branch, stated, “Our opinion is that Grindr has released user data to third parties for behavioral advertising without a legal basis.”
