Italy and Angola have struck an agreement on energy cooperation as European countries aim to lessen their reliance on Russian gas. According to privately-owned Angola24Horas, the agreement intends to “boost Angolan gas exports and lessen the European country’s reliance on Russian gas supplies.”
It was signed in Luanda, Angola’s capital, by Angolan Mineral Resources Minister Diamantino Azevedo and Italy’s Ecological Transition Minister Roberto Cingolani.
Eni, an Italian multinational, is a key player in the Angolan oil and gas industry.
On Monday, Prime Minister Mario Draghi signed an agreement with Algeria to purchase more of its gas, signalling the country’s continued efforts to lessen its reliance on Russia. Russia supplies over 40% of Italy’s gas.
