The foundation stone of the new parliament building was laid on December 10, 2020 by the honorable Prime Minister of India.
Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the new parliament building in a ceremony held on December 10, 2020. The ceremony was held in the presence of several political and religious leaders and industrialists as well.
The foundation stone was laid by the Prime Minister at around 1 pm followed by a prayer meeting. This new parliament is said to be a project costing more than 900 crores.
It is expected to be completed by 2022. Talking about the facilities of the new Parliament building it is designed to have a massive seating capacity for the upper house and the lower house. With that, there will be amenities like Constitution hall, library, lounge, better dining areas and much bigger parking space than the old building.
The Prime Minister addressed the nation at 2 PM after the multi-faith prayer meeting. He expressed his happiness after laying the foundation stone for the new Parliament building.
He said that this will mark the beginning of a self-reliant India. As India got independence in 1947 but the decision-making process of the country was still held from the old parliament building which was made by the British.
Therefore this new building will remind everyone that India is truly independent now. Modi added that every work that is being done now should be envisioned to 2047 when we will mark 100 years of independence. He added that it should be everyone’s vision to see India reaching several milestones by 2047 so that it can stand as completely independent, self-reliant and thus prove to be the ideal example of the biggest and the most successful democracy.
