Novavax noted as Australia’s 5th approved Covid-19 vaccine

Novavax has become one of the registered vaccines. For its 26 million people, the government has purchased 51 million doses of the vaccine made in the United States and sold under the brand Nuvaxovid.

Vaccines from Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and Moderna are already in use in Australia.  The Janssen vaccine from Johnson & Johnson is also authorized, but the government has not purchased any.

The Novavax vaccine will be offered to unvaccinated Australians aged 18 and up, but will not be used as a booster for the 95 percent of the population aged 16 and up who have already had a vaccination.

“Despite a large vaccine uptake in our country, there are some people who have been waiting for Novavax, and it’s excellent that it’s now been authorized,” said chief regulator John Skerritt, head of the Therapeutic Goods Administration.
