Omicron cases increase in Delhi

Omicron cases have been increasing rapidly in Delhi, the capital of India. On Wednesday, it was reported that around 58,097 active cases are there in India.

Nearly a third of those infections came from Delhi and Mumbai. The financial capital of  India, Mumbai, and the National capital, Delhi both have hard restrictions and implemented curfews in order to stop the spread of the virus.

The head of India’s vaccine task force Dr. NK Arora says that the third wave has started in the county and also the pandemic. He also added that the entire wave looks to be driven by a new variant, Omicron.

The country has reported more than 2,000 Omicron cases – Maharashtra, of which Mumbai is the capital, is leading the tally (653), followed by Delhi (464).  

Satyendar Jain, who is the health minister of Delhi said that around 81% of Covid samples tested in the city reported positive for Omicron.
