Baba ka Dhaba has been a social media sensation that was trending on every platform in the past few months. Apparently, the owner of the dhaba, Kanta Prasad has registered a complaint against the YouTuber who made him famous, Gaurav Wasan as he siphoned off some money for himself which was donated for the dhaba.
On October 7, Wasan shot the video the Kanta and his elderly wife in Malviya Nagar at their dhaba as they highlighted their plight in these trying times. Wasan posted the video and it went viral in just a few days. Several people came forward to show their support and contribute money for the couple.
Prasad’s complaint
Prasad reported that Wasan gave him a cheque of only Rs 2 lakh. “I don’t get a lot of customers now; most people come here to take selfies… Earlier I was earning over Rs 10,000 per day, now it’s Rs 3,000-Rs 5,000,” he stated. The complaint filed by Prasad, with the help of a group of men, at Malviya Nagar police station on Saturday asserts that Wasan “deliberately shared his and his family’s bank details and collected a huge amount as donation”.
DCP (South) Atul Kumar Thakur stated, “We received the complaint yesterday and are enquiring into it.” An FIR has not been filed yet.
Wasan clarifies
The accusations were refuted by Wasan as he said that all the money was transferred to Prasad’s account. “When I shot the video, I didn’t know it would become this big. I didn’t want people to harass Baba (Prasad) so I shared my bank details…” Wasan presented three receipts of the transactions, which were of the date October 27 — two cheques of Rs 1,00,000 and Rs 2,33,000 and one bank payment receipt of Rs 45,000.

He asserted that in three days, this was the amount he gathered. A bank statement was also posted on Facebook by Wasan showing the amount of money as Rs 3.5 lakh. When the question of other two transactions was posed to Prasad, he answered that he is unaware of the same as he hasn’t been able to check his bank balance.
There have been some speculations by other YouTubers that Wasan collected about Rs 20-25 lakh. He denied this statement and has also initiated legal action against those who stated this.
