ScotRail service has announced that all train services would stop because of an 80mph wind warning. When the worst of the weather is predicted, ScotRail announced many trains would be halted by 16:00.
CalMac halted a number of ferry services on Wednesday morning, and the Forth Road Bridge and the Erskine Bridge are closed.
From 2 p.m. until 12 a.m., an amber warning is in effect for parts of Scotland, England, and Northern Ireland. The Scottish Government and Police Scotland have warned that public transportation would be disrupted.
The government organisation in charge of maintaining roads in England, National Highways, has also advised motorists in the affected area to only travel if “absolutely necessary.”
Many services will be cut down and ceased by 16:00, according to ScotRail service delivery director David Simpson on BBC Radio Scotland’s Good Morning Scotland.
“Make sure you’re home and safe by four o’clock,” he urged. “During the day, we have engineers on standby, and at night, we have extra teams.” We’ll be out monitoring routes tonight if we can.”
Mr Simpson added that replacement bus services were “unlikely” and advised travellers to monitor the ScotRail website and app for service updates.
