Sedef Kabas arrested for reciting proverb

Sedef Kabas, a well-known Turkish journalist, has been imprisoned by a Turkish court for allegedly insulting the country’s president.

Sedef Kabas was detained in Istanbul on Saturday, and a judge ordered her to be imprisoned until a trial.

She is accused of using a proverb to attack President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the live broadcast on an opposition-linked TV program. She vehemently disputes the accusation.

The charge carries a jail penalty ranging from one to four years.

“A well-known saying states that a crowned head gets smarter. However, we can see that this is not the case “She stated on the Tele1 channel. “A bull does not become king just by entering the castle; rather, the palace transforms into a barn.”

She later shared the quote on Twitter.
