Following a new rise of Covid cases, Chinese authorities have expanded the city of Shanghai’s lockdown to include all of its 25 million residents.
Initially, there were distinct measures for the eastern and western parts of the city, but today the entire city is subject to indefinite limitations. Shanghai is the largest single city to have been secured to yet.
For more than a month, the key financial centre has been fighting a fresh wave of coronavirus infections. The number of reported cases has climbed to more than 13,000 each day, while this is still low by certain worldwide standards.
Residents in several regions of the city claimed that due to the rigorous restrictions, no one was permitted to leave their housing compounds, not even to obtain critical supplies.
They reported issues purchasing food and drink online, as well as limits on when consumers may make their orders due to a paucity of supplies and delivery personnel.
