The United States will meet the Taliban in Qatar, first face-to-face meeting since withdrawal

The United States is about to hold its first personal talks with the Taliban since withdrawing from Afghanistan. However, the meeting will take place in Doha, Qatar, over the weekend and the main topic of discussions is the evacuation of foreigners. US officials have clearly mentioned that they do not recognize the Islamic organization’s dominance in Afghanistan. Furthermore, the meeting on Saturday and Sunday does not involve ties of friendship with the militant group.

In addition, they will discuss the situation for Afghans currently residing in Afghanistan. However, US officials said they do not recognize Taliban dominance in the country and that the meeting does not propose friendly relations. A US spokesman said the Islamic group will only gain legitimacy through its actions.

What will the authorities discuss?

Sources reveal that the United States will argue; the evacuation of US citizens at the Taliban meeting. They will ask the Islamic organization to commit to letting the Americans leave Afghanistan. In addition to the Americans, they will demand the evacuation of other foreign nationals as well. In addition, they will demand the withdrawal of Afghans who worked for the US military or government during their operations in Afghanistan. Some reports also suggest that American officials will also raise their voice for women’s rights in this war-torn country.

The situation of women in Afghanistan

Women in Afghanistan can no longer study or work. The Taliban banned women from attending schools, universities and even their workplaces. However, US authorities will pressure the Taliban to respect the rights of all Afghans; including females.

In addition, they will insist on forming an inclusive government with women. The lives of women in Afghanistan are extremely miserable. Furthermore, women cannot leave the house alone. They need to have a male member of their household with them. Since American troops left Afghanistan, the Taliban have become even more powerful. They have previously claimed that women will have equal rights in the war-torn country, but their actions reveal an entirely different picture.
