Yet again, Twitter has suspended a page which infringed its media policies. A page connected to President Donald Trump violated the platform’s regulations by posting a video of Hunter Biden.
Suspension of the page was because the video they posted contained private information, as per as statement. Trump’s page has over 2 million followers and the post on the page has been removed. But a screengrab can be seen which reads, “Joe Biden is a liar who has been ripping off our country for years.” Following that, it shows Hunter Biden, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s son, as he manages a business deal.
A few days back, an article from The Post was published which allegedly talked about the emails which indicated that Hunter Biden familiarised his father to a Ukrainian official from a gas firm. Another story published by the New York Post said that Hunter Biden left his laptop at a Delaware store as it had implicating material on it. The owner of the store gave the hard drive’s copy to Rudy Giuliani, who happens to be an ally of Trump.
The president’s campaign spokespersons have countered the move by Twitter to suspend the account with disdain.
“This is election interference, plain and simple. For Twitter to lock the main account of the campaign of the President of the United States is a breath-taking level of political meddling and nothing short of an attempt to rig the election,” Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh said.
Even though the link was removed from the Team Trump page, one can still access it at Trump’s official account.
Not more than two weeks prior, a post by the President about the coronavirus was removed from Facebook and flagged by Twitter. According to Twitter and Facebook, the post came after he was discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment for the virus.
The post read: “Flu season is coming up! Many people every year, sometimes over 100,000, and despite the Vaccine, die from the Flu. Are we going to close down our Country? No, we have learned to live with it, just like we are learning to live with Covid, in most populations far less lethal.”
The president retorted by citing that Section 230, which exempts social media companies from laws related to libel and defamation, should be rescinded.
Trump and Biden will partake in the town halls on Thursday night, with NBC airing for Trump and ABC broadcasting his contender.
